I am preparing the Wander to Wonder – Creative quiet day coming up! There are quite a few of us and I’m feeling very excited about it. Every retreat or quiet day, in my process of preparation there is a sense of hope and excitement, but also wanting to not have too much fixed expectations just create space for God to do what God will do.
does spending a day with God through art resonate with you? Come along to a quiet day this November, or reserve a day for 2024.
Here are some information I sent out to all the retreatants:
This quiet day is intended for an open space for you to ‘wander’, for you to connect with God through art making. There will be some reflection from scripture, imaginary prayer as well as playing with weaving and collage. There will be some guidance for those who would like it, but only if it’s helpful. Most of morning there are some guided reflections, while most of the afternoon you are free to go deeper with one thing and make something or do something that feels right to you on your own. I trust God’s presence with you as well as your own sense of direction for what and how your might like to create. Have fun with God. There will be a time for sharing, but there is no pressure to share your art with anyone.
My prayer for this day is that we can come away from the busyness of life, and go with God toward what God has in mind for us for the day. I hope for an encounter with God for all of us through art making, and I’m excited to share this day with you!
We will be reflecting on our journey with God.
We will be reflecting on Peter’s journey with Jesus as well reflecting on our own story with God.
You can bring a few pictures / photos that is important to you at the moment. You might like to photocopy them to incorporate them into your collage, if you would like to keep your original! Or you might like to bring some old clothes that you can repurpose into strips of cloth for your weaving. Sometimes you might have some clothes that you will never wear again but is meaningful to you, if you are ready to see it transform into something else, this might be a way of letting it be part of your own personal artwork. But this is not required and you can change your mind on the day.
Please bring:
- lunch (there is a microwave in the shared kitchen if you need it)
- comfortable clothes
- an apron, smock or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty with
- good walking shoes and wet weather gear, sunscreen and hat for going for a walk if you like to.
- blanket to sit on grass outside if you want to
- a few pictures / photos / clothes / fabric that is important to you if you like to.
- your prayer journal if you have one
All materials provided. We will be working with simple weaving from cardboard loom and collage. There will be some hot drinks and biscuits for morning and afternoon tea.
